August is a Russian (formerly Soviet) hard-and-heavy rock band formed in 1982 in Leningrad by Oleg Gusev. They were one of the first bands in the Soviet Union to release a heavy metal album on the Melodiya label. The band has been revived several times. By the mid-1980s, various bans prevented August from performing or recording. A crisis ensued, leading to the departure of Guberman (later a member of Zoopark and the jazz ensemble Alleggro) and Titov (who became a member of Aquarium for many years) throughout 1983. In March and April 1985, Gusev revived the band, which included singer Pavel Kolesnik, guitarist Alexander Skryabin, and drummer Andrei "Dryunya" Kruglov. In April 2002, the group "August" was revived with a new line-up: Gennady Shirshakov - guitar, Pavel Kolesnik - vocals, Sergey Doykov - drums, Alexander Shestov - bass, Andrey Dubrovin - keyboards, Alexander Egorov - sound.
